The Challenge
The first step will be to take a picture of each person in your group with the camera Mrs. Del Bianco gives you. You can use this picture in your game. You may edit the picture with Image Pals. Be sure to save your work as a .jpeg file in the 5th grade folder. When you're ready - print a copy of the photo!
Think about a setting from the book that can be the background for the game. It can be a board game or a card game. The board game will have one overall background. The card game can have different backgrounds on each card as long as they go together.
Pick a limited palette. That's design talk for pick a few colors to work with. Only use a few color so there is unity in the overall design. It really helps to limit the colors! List your colors on a piece of paper. Remember, only choose a few.
Begin drawing a background sketch.Try to give the sense that you are standing in the setting you have chosen. After you have sketched out your idea for a background, move on to the characters.
Now think about the chararters from the book. On the same piece of paper as your color list, write down the names of a few of the chararters.Who is the main character?Who else can be a part or the game? Can you use the photographs that you took to help you draw your characters?
Now for the hard part! What is the plot, or the main action in the book?  What would be a positive ending?  Is this a good idea for a game?If it is,  start to think about how the game can be set up.How will you play the game?  How will you win?  If you don't think it is clear, get some help from your teacher, a friend or a parent. You need to know the main action in the story in order to design a game with action!
When you have gathered this information. You can begin making the game! Return to the Game page or take a look at the Evaluation page.
